9 Years of Strength: The Evolution of Marble Strength and Our Mission to Serve Freehold
Nine years ago, Marble Strength was just an idea—a passion project born from a desire to help people become stronger and healthier. We had no roadmap, no guarantees, and, quite honestly, no idea what we were doing. But we had heart, determination, and a vision to create something bigger than just a gym.
This month we celebrate 9 incredible years in business. We would like to reflect on our journey—the struggles, the victories, and the incredible community that has grown with us.
How It All Began: Taking a Leap of Faith
In 2016, we opened our doors as CrossFit Dark Athletics. At the time, we were just a small group of people who loved working out and wanted to share that with others. There was no master plan—just a belief that if we built it, people would come. They didn’t.
I was working in a restaurant, my partner Matt was a teacher, and we both lived in Brooklyn. Opening a gym in New Jersey was a long shot, but we took it anyway. And it was rough from the start. I spent the first six months sleeping on the floor of the office just to save money and keep the gym afloat. Within the first 30 days, we almost had to shut our doors.
A stroke of luck led us to a marketing company that helped us gain traction, and from there, we were off and running. But the road wasn’t smooth—one step forward, three steps back. Just when we thought we were making real progress, COVID-19 hit. Like so many small businesses, we faced a massive challenge.
Rebuilding and Finding Our True Purpose
During the pandemic, Matt and I parted ways, and I took on the responsibility of keeping the gym alive. But something still wasn’t clicking. We weren’t really a CrossFit gym anymore. While we valued the CrossFit methodology, our training approach had evolved beyond it. We were focusing more on personalized strength training, education, and long-term progress, but the CrossFit brand limited how we could market ourselves.
So in 2022, we dropped the CrossFit name and rebranded as Marble Strength.
This wasn’t just a name change—it was a refocusing of our mission. We wanted to create a gym that wasn’t just another fitness facility but a true pillar in the Freehold community. A place where people found real solutions to their fitness struggles and gained confidence, strength, and a sense of belonging.
Who We Serve and What We Stand For
Marble Strength isn’t just a gym; it’s a place where people come to build sustainable, long-term habits that improve their lives. We serve men and women of all ages who are tired of quick fixes, fad diets, and programs that don’t deliver results.
Many of our members have felt stuck, unsure of the next step in their fitness journey. They’ve tried everything—group classes, crash diets, and inconsistent routines—only to end up frustrated and back at square one.
