Memorial Day “Murph”

This past Monday we conducted the Annual Hero WOD, “Murph”. The workout is mentally exhausting as much as physically demanding. We held strong as a community and hosted about 36 athletes for this year’s workout.

Murph and Memorial Day are both about honoring the fallen. We maintained that tradition, however this year was a little different. We also honored one of our own – Teresa Lebovits.

For those who don’t know, Teresa Lebovits was my former business partner who sadly passed away 3 years ago on Memorial Day fighting her battle with Crohn’s disease. Teresa was the spark in the gym that made you want to work a little harder, push a little more, and have fun while doing it.

It’s safe to say that Memorial Day will never be the same without her, but we can enhance the meaning of our workouts by placing that little extra emphasis on our performance. Hero workouts for CrossFit were created to perform arduous tasks for those who are no longer able to. For us here at CFDA, Murph or Memorial Day will always be in memory of Teresa.

I am thankful for our community, which came together to raise over $2,700 for the Crohn’s & Colitis foundation in honor of Teresa. Our members came together, and local businesses supported our cause. Although we won’t be able to replace the special spot that Teresa held here at our gym, we have become stronger as a community in remembering her and I look forward to the future with everyone here.

Special thanks to the local businesses that donated:

If you would like to donate to the foundation, we encourage you to do so in the memory of Teresa Lebovits. #honorthefallen #RIP
